5 Simple and Actionable Tips for a Zero-Waste wedd 5 Simple and Actionable Tips for a Zero-Waste wedding 👇🏻

1. USE: Silk or clay flowers (great especially if you have allergies) or if you must use real flowers, keep them and hang-dry them for future decorations in your home or keep the petals around for potpourri (fragrant leaves, accentuated by essential oils).

2. Wear a pre-owned dress by buying secondhand rather than new (Honestly because these dresses are only worn once so buy used if you find a dress that you love to save money and the environment! You might just need dry cleaning or alterations done), or see if a friend or family member would give you to wear theirs for your wedding. Same goes to you if you have a dress lying around: consider lending it out or reselling it. Yes it's sentimental, but is it taking up space? What value can it bring to others if they can use the dress you wore for their big day?

3. Invites can be e-vites, but if you're set on stationery because you love paper goods (we can relate!), try something biodegradable or asking your vendor to use easily recyclable invites. Ask your guests to either keep or recycle your invites. The same goes for guest gifts - biodegradable wrapping or forgo physical gifts and make a donation to a charity of your choice on their behalf. Make your wedding meaningful by being ever intentional.

4. If you have already gotten married and have lots of stuff lying around, see who else may need your decor, dress, or any items you've sourced - sharing is caring. Resell and trade them instead of throwing things out. (Bunz App and FB groups are your friend for your wedding needs.)

5. Only order 50-70% portions of dessert and cake slices for your guest list. Because sometimes people are full to the brim by the meal, and you don't want to waste money or food. For 150 guest list, for instance, order enough portions for 80-100. If you have any elderly guests/sugar conscious people, you may want to consider they won't be having treats to watch their food consumption.

P. S. Check out @thebridesproject to trade in your wedding dress :)

We believe weddings are beautiful but something covenant doesn't require to be wasteful.
People keep saying we are in uncertain times. Look People keep saying we are in uncertain times. Looking at the sunset cotton candy skies the other night, I'm reminded that everything is still beautiful and hopeful even when it's uncertain. And then again, when has things ever been truly certain? I think all we can do is trust the process, trust the Lord in His perfect timing + roll with the punches when they come. To have resilience and ability to pivot as a person and business owner when circumstances change. One thing I'm amazed by, is despite the job market freezing during this pandemic, that the entrepreneurship field/work is flourishing. Though I have not been working on weddings at this time, our team has been brainstorming on what's to come when weddings can start up again. We're adding savory items and drinks to our catering arsenal (smart serve baby!), and we're moving towards the niche of zero-waste weddings (because as much as I love weddings, I am appalled at the environmental impacts they have) and we're stocking up on decor and DIY-ing ALL the things so future clients can rent, reuse and recycle from us and feel validated, seen and supported.

In this time, I've been reflecting on what I want for this business moving forward. I began to discover more of what I love to do and feel more aligned/resolved in my business vision going forward which will help me serve you best. I love connecting with people, collaborating (teamwork makes the dream work), and bringing peoples visions to life but also mostly that the world is truly our oyster online when it comes to entrepreneurship, and I can stop spending time on things that don't align to what I love best or what doesn't serve people the best. Learning to listen more to my gut, listen more to people, and cultivate and create new things in this time. 2020 might not have been the year any of us envisioned but I still believe it's still a year that we can build upon our vision, just reframed.

Boy, do I miss face-to-face wedding workshops. Fel Boy, do I miss face-to-face wedding workshops. Fellow entrepreneurs, are you taking a hiatus or pivoting your business online currently? It’s ok to take a break and it’s ok to keep selling. No judgment either way, only love — it’s a weird time all around, I feel it too.

Our team has decided to take hiatus for now (since all our spring and summer contracts look like they're being deferred into 2021) and it's hard to do wedding coordination online when so much is in the air. This has been a bummer, but, on a thankful note, glad to see it's not gotten everyone down. Some of my couples are moving ahead w/ micro-weddings at home and will do the reception next year or when it's safe to. Better safe than sorry. Love to you all!

Some cool news: Cherry and Karen are one degree hotter —yep scholars out and dundergrad! I’m on summer break from grad school but it’s my last year next year before I graduate and apply for CRPO status. 1 step closer to my dream day job of being a therapist.

In the meanwhile, since I can’t work too much on weddings atm, I'm working on my other side hustle online, which is my blog! ⌨️✍🏻 ariettehung.com/blog ✍🏻⌨️ (Mainly #b2b content) I used it to springboard freelance writing and virtual assistance services for creatives and coaches. I'm thankful that's actually picked up a lot in the last month or so (must be the quarantine, many IRL business owners are pivoting online to pay the bills and outsourcing tasks they need help with). If you want to follow what I do in my other biz, or if you're a wedpreneur in need of virtual assistance or content editing help, or just want to support in general, check out my other biz, @ariettehung.co and website: www.ariettehung.com 🥰

Thanks for reading and stay safe!
A QUARANTINE REFLECTION // Simple joys I miss... g A QUARANTINE REFLECTION // Simple joys I miss... gathering with a group of girlfriends and enjoying a bottle of bubbly together. HOWEVER, grateful I can still do this at home with those I live with. For now, virtual happy hours and thank the Lord that LCBO is still open 🥂😅💕. Currently, I am appreciating the increased intentionality I'm seeing in our social circles about making time for (zoom) meetings or doing small kind gestures like care packages and quarantine 2-meter distance porch visits birthday wishes.

A small update from our ends... While in quarantine we've reached some milestones!! I (Ariette) just wrapped up second year of a post-grad program and since we can't travel anywhere for a while, I've decided to take 3 online courses this summer. Karen and Cherry also just finished their schooling with another degree under the belt! 😊 We are all so incredibly grateful to God and our loving families for their support. Now we're just taking time to recharge, spend more time with our families and organize our lives. We've also had some time to re-evaluate things in business which we will cement more as things become more clear after the quarantine... If there's anything we've learned quickly in the event industry, it's to be flexible and adapt to contingencies. In the event industry, we're realizing that relying solely on in-person services and trading dollars for hours may not be our longest term sustainable plan. We're thinking about diversifying our income online with passive income streams like opening an online store, working more on our blog presence, and hosting online events and workshops. This quarantine might be making us stay in, but it's also helped us think outside the box. Of course, catering and doing the weddings that we're booked for is still in the plans for the next couple years. We look forward to safely celebrating with you all soon. Stay safe and hang tight, everyone!
Congrats to the newlyweds 🥳❤️ Last wedding Congrats to the newlyweds 🥳❤️ Last wedding (possibly for the year... But who knows) before COVID19 was declared a national emergency. So glad these two were able to celebrate with all their friends and family in person before this happened! 🙏🏻 Tori and Tim are two old Ryerson P2C pals! Such a special thing to be there to celebrate with you two on that day! #CruzIn2020

A&J's wedding and marriage story was straight out A&J's wedding and marriage story was straight out of both an Asian drama... And God's plan, all at the same time! 😍 Complete with: Chinese love songs (Ancy's favourite person is Jay Chou... "not Joseph"😂), romantic as heck winter wonderland wedding photos, kpop dance entrances, an Asian drama-inspired wedding party photo (as we were prepping them for the reception entrance), beautiful florals and treats (all coordinated and/or created by the mother of the bride, what a helpful mum!). So excited for you two as you build your lives together... And hopefully I'll get to fly out and visit ya'll in Seattle sometime! #JosephGetsAncy #2020WeddingSzn
Joseph & Ancy takes the cake for being the coolest Joseph & Ancy takes the cake for being the coolest couple ever on getting married on a leap year date! 👫❤️ Enjoy these detail shots and memories from the day (low phone camera quality but high quality people)! Yesterday was a great start to the 2020 wedding season, and such an honour serving my dear friend as she got married to the love of her life (enjoy your honeymoon friends, hehe) by helping to GM. What a gospel-exemplifying, God-glorifying ceremony.

I'm greatly inspired by the evident love you have for those around you, for the way you spread God's love everywhere you go, and for each other (#couplegoals). Many happy tears were shed last night :*) Also, shout-out to the most chill and friendliest bride tribe ever (who had me along to get nails done and for dinner)... y'all troopers for going out in the snow for the winter wedding photos! Cold weather... But warm hearts, you know? An all-around beautiful day.
